He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of commercial disputes, including claims arising out of distribution, lease, and lending relationships, as well as financial institutions in disputes arising out of participation and other inter-bank agreements and in claims brought by defaulting borrowers and by trust beneficiaries.

John has also represented individual officers and directors of community banks in connection with FDIC inquiries and demands for payment of civil damages following bank failures. For every client, in every matter, John takes pride in using his big firm experience and small-firm flexibility to find solutions that are both creative and cost-effective, working with (and listening to) his clients to identify the battles that need to be fought and fight them from the best positions possible.

John’s practice also extends to attorney professional responsibility matters. He represents and advises both attorneys and clients in connection with professional responsibility matters and in fee disputes. He is an active member of both the American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Ethics and Professionalism Committee (which he co-chaired from 2010-2013) and the Chicago Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Professional Fees Committees. He also served as a member of the ABA Ethics 20/20’s Working Group on Alternative Litigation Finance. He is admitted to practice in Illinois as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Prior to entering private practice, John clerked for the Honorable Suzanne B. Conlon of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

my full profile

Sharon spent nearly a decade practicing with a large Chicago law firm where, as an associate and partner in the firm’s general litigation practice, she handled high exposure commercial litigation, including class actions, consumer fraud claims, trade secret misappropriation and restrictive covenant claims, false advertising and other business litigation.

Sharon also practiced for several years with another global law firm, acting as lead counsel on a statewide environmental class action and further assisting in management of a client’s multi-state regulatory and litigation proceedings. Sharon also left private practice for a few years to act as in-house senior litigation counsel for a major energy corporation, where she enjoyed dealing with the legal issues from the client’s perspective. In that role, she maintained accountability for a broad-based litigation portfolio encompassing multiple business segments, and partnered with business leadership to manage external legal spend and develop long-term strategy for litigated matters.

Sharon has represented major corporations, individuals and executive employees, with clients from a vast array of industries, including financial services, insurance, manufacturing, media, and energy. Her cases have been just as varied, with claims involving general commercial matters, contractual disputes, fraud, consumer fraud and environmental class actions, misappropriation of trade secret claims, false advertising claims, as well as internal investigations and qui tam actions. Sharon has also counseled executive employees in connection with claims made by or against former employees relating to employment contracts and restrictive covenants. In each matter, Sharon works to find forward-looking solutions, to know her client’s legal and business interests, and to identify the best strategy to employ from day one.

Sharon received her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law, with high honors, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as a senior associate for the Chicago-Kent Law Review, and a member of the Kent Justice Foundation. She graduated from the University of Illinois, and also spent a year of study at the University of Manchester, England. Sharon currently serves on the Ethics and Professionalism Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation, and is co-chair of its Judiciary Subcommittee. Sharon clerked for the Honorable Harold Baer, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
